LINEAGE: Brent was born on December 6th, 1974 in Columbus, Ohio. If you believe in astrology, he is a Sagittarius (Greek Astrology) Tiger (Chinese Astrology). Other famous Sagittarius Tigers in the arts, design, and engineering, include Ludwig van Beethoven. His dad, Joseph A. Zorich, was an MBA and Microbiologist from Ohio State who ran the Ohio Department of Health and worked on the Governor's Emergency Medical Task Force; and his mom, Jane "Cookie" Zorich, was a blood lab technician who became a preschool teacher once Brent was four years old. Brent is 1/4 Volpe (Sicilian), 1/4 Zorich (Polish), and 1/2 Sotak (Czechoslovakian). His grandmother, Janet Volpe Zorich, was famous in the Ohio Valley for being an authentic italian chef: with her meatballs and city chicken being Brent's favorite, as well as even rumored to cook dinner for Dean Martin one time who was from Steubenville. On his mother's Czechoslovakian side, his grandfather, Gaze Sotak, was in eight major battles in The Pacific as a First Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps in World War II. In one of the battles, The Battle of Guadalcanal, he and a few of his men were stranded for approximately fifteen days and left for dead until discovered by United States military patrol. Brent's Czechoslovakian grandmother's lineage on his mother's side, The Fescos, were architects in old country in Prague. On his father's Polish quarter, his grandfather, Stanley Zorich, was a World War II veteran in the army and an avid baseball fan (with The New York Yankees being his favorite team). Growing up he always stocked Brent's collections with the latest baseball cards. Due to Stanley living during The Great Depression, it was he that taught the family about being conservative with money, investing, and money management.
INTERESTS: So fellow video game, VFX, and animation developers can get to know him, for fun, Brent enjoys going to four star steakhouse bars to watch ESPN (although he rarely drinks alcohol); lecturing at universities around the country on the topic of video game and visual effects development; and at Starbucks, daily, sketching Frank Gehry influenced deconstructive buildings on his iPad Pro 2 (with APPLE Pencil), using the ADOBE Design Ecosystem software. He is a fan of Ohio State Football, pulls for The Chicago Bears in the NFC, the AFC North (Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Bengals) in the AFC, and affiliations of the players on the 90s Chicago Bulls. Freshman year at The Ohio State University he was a walk on hopeful for The Ohio State Football team but failed to make the squad due to having bronchitis during tryouts. He was so sick in fact that he missed the first day of "hell week" initiation in his fraternity the following week, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. It was common in the dorms at Ohio State in Morrill Tower that his suite mates and he would have video game tournaments that the dorm would be involved; including the freshman football players. Popular titles that were played in these tournaments were 'Bill Walsh College Football', 'Madden NFL', 'NHL', and 'FIFA' by EA Sports, as well as 'Mortal Kombat' by Midway Games all on the Sega Genesis. Later in college he played 'Doom' quite frequently by ID Software on the Sony Playstation. For a year in college he switched his major from Industrial Design to Pre Allied Medicine, later to switch back, because at the time, he wanted to be a strength coach in the NFL. In his twenties and early thirties his exercise performance stats were as follows: 365 bench press; 300 close grip bench press; 315 incline press; 1000 pound leg press; 500 pound squat; 405 set of 20 on shrug; set of 5 with 225 on lunges; set of 10 with 100 pounds on weighted dips; hammer curls set of 8 with 85 pound dumbbells in each arm; 60 pound Arnold press set of 8; speed was approximately a 4.9 40 yard dash hand time. When he worked as an architectural designer at Gensler in Atlanta, Georgia, he trained at World Gym Marietta. During his undergrad stay at Ohio State, his roommates were both members of the Ohio State Varsity Football and Varsity Basketball team at the same time. Throughout school he trained football players in the weight room; that study of physiology and biomechanics is directly applicable to the character motions he designed for both film and game characters. He also put several female friends through his workouts as well. The woman whose physique he admires the most is World Cup Athlete Ana Maria Markovic`. In college he practiced Jeet Kune Do: the martial art of Bruce Lee. For exercise now he usually walks two to three miles four to five times a week, does up to 300 crunches, and lastly do pushups, squats, and calf raises. Typically for breakfast Brent will have a "Dave's Organic Bagel" with an avocado (for heart health); for lunch he eats 10 blackberries and 15 blueberries with peanut butter on wheat bread (for cognitive and muscle building health); he has a sensible dinner with having cheat meals throughout the week. His favorite movies are Spider-Man 2, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (that is his favorite movie actually seeing it over thirty times in the theater), The Fantasia Series, and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. His favorite video games are Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Battlefront II, all by Electronic Arts for the XBOX; Spider-Man, and God of War for the PlayStation 4; and The Batman Arkham Series by Warner Bros Interactive. His favorite television shows are ESPN College Gameday, Fox's Big Noon Kickoff, Inside the NBA, multiple shows throughout the day on CNBC, NFL on Fox, The Apprentice, Shark Tank, The Sopranos, Star Wars The Clone Wars, and Tim Burton's Wednesday. His fashion of choice is Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Hugo Boss, and Air Jordan.
GOAL: Brent’s ultimate goal is to be a Chief Visual Officer at a major game development studio. Studios that he feels could best utilize his skillset are one of the following: PlayStation (“Spider-Man”, “God of War”, “Drake’s Uncharted Fortune”, “Last of Us”, “Ghost of Tsushima”, “Gran Turismo”), XBOX (“Halo”, “Gears of War”), Industrial Light & Magic (“Star Wars”, “Marvel”), WB Games (“Hogwarts Legacy”, “Lord of the Rings”, “Batman Arkham”, "Mortal Kombat”), Take Two Interactive (“NBA 2K”, “Grand Theft Auto”), Nintendo (“The Legend of Zelda”, “Donkey Kong”, “Super Mario Bros”), Activision Blizzard (“Diablo”, “World of Warcraft”, “Call of Duty”), Electronic Arts (“Madden NFL”, "NHL", “NCAA Football”, “Fifa”, “Star Wars”, “Lord of the Rings”, “Need For Speed”), "The Polar Express 2", "Fantasia", the new "Harry Potter" TV show, "Snoopy", or film game convergence for Peter Jackson, Christopher Nolan, or James Cameron. A position like that should pay approximately 600k-800k in base, with 1 to 2 million in bonus, and 3 to 7 million in awarded annual stock (10 to 15 million per year ).... or.... alternatively, Brent would set up an animation/ video game consultancy, even from Columbus, Ohio, called 'Bulls and Bears' (based on his love of following the 'New York Stock Exchange' on CNBC, as well as Chicago sports) where he is awarded the following aspects in the video game pipeline: concept illustration, private equity strategies, finance and business guidance, character technical construction, engineering pipeline/ rigging, and environments for select titles from these companies to complete. Eventually, Brent would like to sit on the Board of Directors of one of the following companies part time: The Walt Disney Company, Sony, Nike, Google, Meta, or Microsoft.
FORMULA: The formula used to derive the potential earnings of 10 million per year for Chief Visual Officer. Note: The current Chief Creative Officer of the Walt Disney Company earns 27 million a year as a point of reference. Chief Visual Officer is responsible for five areas of game development:
Over a period of 3 years, 20 million worth of software plus 18 million worth of concept drawings equals 38 million total. 38 million divided by 3 years equals 12.5 Million per year, or to be conservative (1/4 of the earnings of Mr. Andrew Wilson- the CEO of Electronic Arts- who earned 40 million in 2021: which Brent is rounding down to 10 million from the 12.5 Million). In other words- 600k to 800k base, plus 1 to 2 million in bonus, and 3 to 7 million in stock annually. Brent is hoping that all of this setup will lead to making an impression on the powers that be that are creative executives in the gaming world. Of the 5 million to 10 million per year in earnings, Brent would most likely live on 500k of it the first year and invest the remaining 4.5 to 9.5 in his brokerages earning 8%, or about an additional 550k to 950k. Add that 550k on top of the initial 500k and after two years, you have over 1.5 million in spending while still having between 9 million and 19 million in your brokerages earning interest. After five years, if those are the earnings, Brent would have 25 million to 50 million in the bank and his additional spending on top of the 500k principal would be between 2.5 million and 5 million annually. Brent’s rule of thumb, for a package where salary, stock, and bonus, is 500k, live off just over a third and invest the rest. Even down the line, if the salary and interest end up being 5 million a year in spending, with 50 million or more in the bank, 5 million a year in spending comes out to about 13k a day.
After parting ways with Lucasfilm in 2009, Brent set up multiple "passive income" entities and that is his main source of revenue. Both ventures are the equivalent in regards to effort and maintenance of two self standing parking lots; but instead of parking your car for an extended time with little to no maintenance, they are selling product to the marketplace at the level, artistically and engineering wise, of former employers (including Lucasfilm, Disney, Sony Pictures, EA Sports, DreamWorks, Take Two, as well as illustrations of architecture that could be used as game concepts by Gensler and NBBJ). A third party manufacturer handles all product production, logistics, web maintenance, and web design through their plugins on Shopify- Brent just collect the royalties off of sales. Point being though, one of the parking lots (BZP PRO- operating like Autodesk) was advised by 'Empire Strikes Back' affiliates to not sell below 20 million in acquisition, and the other parking lot (Sketches of Brent Zorich- operating like Pottery Barn) was projected by the firm representing Google, Facebook, Disney, and Amazon at the potential of 6 million per year with "GQ" and "Vogue" magazine interest. The business strategy is similar to what the main characters did in the movie “The Blind Side.” In the movie, that couple set up a multiple amount of Taco Bell restaurants that had their own management team. Since they were not ‘hands on’, they were investors collecting profits from this passive income. Neither one of those two had the desire to be restaurant owners that partake in daily operations; they simply cash in on the royalties and earnings of these self standing entities. This not only frees them up to do the types of projects they want to actually work on with little involvement in the fast food cash cows (in Brent’s case as a CVO), but also provides multiple income streams at little to no billable effort. Should this current passive income (BZP Pro and Sketches of Brent Zorich) become incredibly lucrative, Brent would most likely form a LLC that would umbrella additional passive income not yet created in the future: not limited to but potentially including self sustained car washes, laundromats, physical parking lots, and rentals/ real estate. To be smart with money, 50% of the monthly earning of these future potential passive income streams would go into a S & P index fund that would compound. If the two passive income streams far surpass expectations in regards to lucrative volume, Brent will set up a private equity firm.
INSPIRATION: Brent’s eventual goal, like stated earlier, would to be a Chief Visual Officer at a major animation, visual effects, or video game studio similar to someone like Doug Chiang (founder of the studio Imagemovers Digital that was acquired by The Walt Disney Company and who is current CO-CVO of Lucasfilm), Jason Jones (billionaire who founded the studio Bungie and sold to Sony Playstation for 3.7 billion), Hideo Kojima (creative genius in the gaming world who is considered one of the top game designers on the planet- inventor of the game Metal Gear Solid), or John Knoll (inventor of Photoshop who sold to Adobe and is the other current CO-CVO of Lucasfim), with Mark Pincus potential: who he had the pleasure of having a brainstorming session in September of 2013. Pincus formed the publicly traded company Zynga, was one of the initial investors of FACEBOOK, and sold Zynga to Take-Two Interactive for approximately 13 billion dollars. As of recent years Brent has also become a fan of Jim Kay who is the illustrator for J.K. Rowling (his favorite fiction along with Spider-Man, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars).
